The fourth entry in Capcom's popular Devil May Cry series is now available in North America for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles. Devil May Cry 4, or DMC4 for short, shipped to retailers in the US and Canada February 5th (yesterday) which generally means that most retailers in those regions will receive it today.
DMC4 is a 3rd person action adventure game starring series newcomer Nero, though the series' popular anti-hero Dante is also in the game and has some playable parts. Like the previous entries, players will take on demonic enemies by chaining together vicious sword attacks and gunshot blasts. There is also a bit of exploration and puzzle solving to be had although it should be noted that this is a linear game and exploration will have its limits. Nero and Dante play differently and have unique abilities to keep the gameplay from feeling too repetitive.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are for the most part identical although the PS3 version has a brief installation period the first time you play which reportedly will eliminate loading screens for a more seamless experience. A PC version will be released later in the year.
The game is also available in a limited collector's edition set that includes a tin case with protective sleeve, bonus DVD with a "making-of" feature and the volume one DVD of the DMC anime series, dubbed in english by ADV. Consumers who pre-ordered the collector's edition from GameStop or EB Games also received a hardcover book containing artwork from the game.
Devil May Cry 4 is rated Mature (ages 17+) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) for Blood, Language, Sexual Themes and Violence.
